Gigi Hadid was arrested and fined $1,000 after customs agents found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in her luggage in the Cayman Islands. The supermodel, already released, flew on a private jet for a girls' trip from the US on July 10th.
Gigi Hadid arrived at Owen Roberts International Airport, where "ganja and paraphernalia for consumption" were found in her luggage during an inspection. The quantities were small and seemingly for personal use.
Similar materials were found in the luggage of Leah Nicole McCarthy, also part of Hadid's group. Both were detained on suspicion of ganja importation and related paraphernalia and were taken to the Detention Center.
They were released on bail and appeared in a summary court on July 12th, where they pleaded guilty. Each received a $1,000 fine, and there was no record of conviction. The courts in the Cayman Islands confirmed the indictments of Hadid and McCarthy in George Town, without specifying the charges.
A representative of Hadid stated that she was traveling with marijuana legally obtained in New York, with a medical license. Medical marijuana use is also legal in Grand Cayman since 2017. Hadid's record remains clean, and she enjoyed the remainder of her stay on the island.
Since the incident, Hadid and her friends have been relaxing on vacation, sharing photos and videos of their travels. Hadid showcases a fake dragon tattoo on her leg, joking about the trend of dragon tattoos in the captions of her bikini photos on Instagram.
